Hey DC! This month, we are showing love to DC musicians! Are you or anyone you know a DC-based musician who wants their SOUND to be heard? Now until February 21st, we want you to upload a link to your music for a chance to be featured on DCN's "The Sound." This upcoming season, "The Sound" will expand to one-hour long episodes where artists will compete head-to-head in front of a panel of judges and a live audience in order to determine who has the best sound!
The panel of judges will be representative of the entertainment and media community. They will provide feedback on each performance to assist the artist with their career development. Following each artist's performance, judges will cast their votes. The preliminary rounds (one show each night) will be held on March 2nd, 3rd and 4th from 6 PM - 9 PM at Ivy City Smokehouse, with one winner chosen each day. Those winners will compete in the final round on March 5th from 6 PM – 9 PM. Think you've got what it takes? Visit www.thesoundsubmissions.com for your chance to be a part of the show!

In FY18, the #EntertainDC Office launched a creative economy job training support program in partnership with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 22. The program provides District residents financial subsidies to defray the costs of IASTE technical training classes. It also offers District resident IASTE members the opportunity to acquire the professional certifications required to rise up the IATSE classification tier. In turn, members can qualify for higher paying jobs and therefore pave a pathway to the middle class. On the first Thursday of each month, come out for IATSE's Open House located at the Local 22 office in Washington, DC. For more information, click HERE.
Sundance Institute and Adobe are teaming up to find the next 10 Sundance Ignite Fellows—emerging filmmakers ages 18 to 25 who are creating stories that bring their passion, voice, and perspective to life. To choose this year's fellows, we're holding a short film challenge, asking filmmakers to submit a one- to fifteen-minute short that shows us their artistic vision and unique voice. Submissions aren't limited to any genre or topic—the only requirement is that they represent each filmmaker's perspective as an artist. For more information about entry requirements and more, please visit https://collab.sundance.org/ignitechallenge.
